Takedown and correction policy
How to get something changed or removed.
If you maintain an indexed extension
No justification required. Email legal@extdir.com with the package name. It will be removed and will not be re- added by a later crawl.
You can ask for a correction instead: a wrong category, an out-of-date description, a compatibility row that misreads your constraint.
What we index, and why
Entries are generated from metadata you published to Packagist and from your public repository: package name, description, licence, version constraints and repository activity. Your code, README and images are not copied; images may carry separate licensing.
Extensions without a licence are never redistributed
If no open-source licence is detected, the extension is indexed and linked only. Nothing is mirrored, rebuilt or hosted, and no install instructions are published. A public repository is not permission to redistribute it.
Copyright and trademark complaints
To have material removed on rights grounds, send:
- the exact URL or package name concerned;
- what the material is and which right it infringes;
- a statement that you hold that right or are authorised to act for the holder;
- contact details for correspondence.
Contested material is taken down while the complaint is assessed. If the complaint is unfounded, it goes back up.
Response times
extdir is run by one person in their own time, so a same-day reply is not promised. Maintainer removal requests are acted on within 7 days. Rights complaints are acknowledged within 3 days, and the material is taken down on acknowledgement.
What happens to removed entries
A removed extension is delisted. It disappears from search, categories and its own page, and the crawler will not restore it. A record of the removal and its reason is kept internally, and not published.
Disagreements
If you think a removal or refusal was wrong, reply to the same thread and say why. The source code is public, so how this works can be inspected.
